Over 55 Employment Program
Through the Over 55 Employment Program, unemployed older adults receive part-time work experience and training while working closely with a case manager to identify employment opportunities. The ultimate goal is to secure employment in unsubsidized jobs offering a steady income, thereby increasing the older worker economic independence.
Throughout this period, the case manager supports participants by helping with job searches and applications while advocating with potential employers on their behalf. The case worker also addresses other issues as they arise.
Currently, the majority of the positions are in the areas of housekeeping, building maintenance, security monitoring, and elder care or childcare. The over 55 Employment Program enrollees work and train in their assigned positions for up to 20 hours a week and receive subsidized wages through the program.
