School Age Program
Casa Central's School Age program engages 60 children, ages 5 to 12, in a variety of educational, cultural and recreational activities while their parents are still at work or school. The program offers children opportunities to play, learn, and grow in a safe and healthy bilingual/ bicultural environment. Parents don't have to worry about leaving their children home alone or discovering they're out on the streets.
Quality Child Care
The School Age Program offers students quality care while their parents are working, attending school, or attending a SNAP-approved training program. Our School Age Program operates full day during the summer, sponsoring weekly trips to sporting events, movies, museums and parks.
Year-round Activities & Transportation
Students are exposed to a wide variety of year-round field trips. During the school year, the School Age Program provides daily snacks. During a designated homework hour, students can either do homework from school or receive tutoring help in a specified subject. The staff strives to be actively involved in their student's lives and work hard to provide individual care and resources for them. Among the many structured activities planned for the students are group dance, computers, nutrition, sports, food experiences, science projects and more. Transportation is provided to our program at 1335 N. California Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, from five Chicago Public schools and one charter school each day during the school year.
Collaboration with Other Organizations
The School Age Program collaborates with Center for Student Missions, Knowledge Learning, the University of Illinois Extension, World Vision, Greater Chicago Food Depository, and several other organizations to provide resources, activities, and individual tutoring for staff and students. Volunteers, both individual and in groups, visit frequently and join the students in games and single-day projects such as piñata making, carving pumpkins, and other arts and crafts.
