Success Story: Youth Options Unlimited

Tabitha

Tabitha is a recent graduate who is currently attending Dominican University. She had been involved in the Youth Options Unlimited Program for several years when her family's landlord decided to evict them so he could revamp the building. As a result, Tabitha, her three siblings and her mother became homeless.

They were transferred to multiple shelters over a period of several months, and since they couldn't keep moving all of their belongings each time, they ended up having to leave much of their clothing and other necessities behind. The children also had a lot of trouble with transportation to and from school from shelters all over the city.

Throughout this period of struggle, Tabitha continued to attend Y.O.U as often as she could, and remained a peer educator and the President of the Youth Council. She worked very hard and finally achieved her goal to earn a membership in the National Honor Society at her high school.

Despite the hardships endured by Tabitha and her family, she continues to be a positive role model for the other youth in the program.
