Celebrate community, culture, and wellness at Casa Central's Annual Harvest Fest on Friday, September 25, from 2:30pm to 6:00pm at the corner of California Ave. and Evergreen Ave. in Humboldt Park, Chicago. This free, family-friendly event offers complimentary groceries, nutrition education, and access to helpful resources. Join us as we honor Hispanic Heritage Month with delicious food, music, dancing, arts & crafts, and activities for the whole family.

Across many Latino cultures, flowers represent heritage, family, resilience and a deep connection to the land. Vibrant shades of pink, yellow, blue, and green are woven throughout traditional textiles, murals, pottery, and festive decorations. These bold colors, reflected in traditions such as Mexican papel picado, Puerto Rican festivals, and Latin American folk art symbolize joy, celebration, community, and cultural pride. Inspired by these traditions, our floral design for Harvest Fest this year was thoughtfully chosen to honor the spirit of our community and celebrate the connections that bring us together through culture, food music, and family.

Featured Dance Performance: Los Médicos

Los Médicos is an Afro-Puerto Rican bomba collective based on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to honoring and carrying forward Puerto Rico's oldest living African-rooted music and dance tradition. Grounded in Afro-diasporic memory and practice, their work is not simply performance, but a living tradition of community, resilience, and care. They are committed to building and healing community through Afro-Puerto Rican bomba.

Los Médicos will lead an interactive Bomba Workshop and Performance, inviting attendees to experience this vibrant cultural tradition through music, movement, and participation.

Featured Cooking Demonstration

Chef Roberto Perez of Urban Pilón will collaborate with Loisa for a live cooking demonstration featuring Loisa seasonings and products. Urban Pilón's mission is to preserve and celebrate the culinary traditions of Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Latin America through food education and storytelling.

Music: Sheila Martinez (DJ SheyBae)

Sheila Martinez is a Brighton Park multidisciplinary artist, DJ, and community organizer dedicated to cultural preservation, collective healing, and community empowerment. Through her project Todo Terreno, she hosts workshops and community-centered gatherings that foster connection, wellness, and creative expression. Her work supports grassroots organizations and creates inclusive spaces where joy, care, and culture can thrive. Through music and community engagement, she helps strengthen and uplift neighborhoods while advancing a vision of collective liberation and nourishment.

Community Art Activity

Somos Arte Chicago will host an interactive art table featuring hands-on cultural crafts and creative activities for attendees of all ages. Their work centers on celebrating community through art and education.

Gardening & Food Access

Chicago Grows Food will provide educational gardening resources and grow bag giveaways to attendees. Their mission is to reduce barriers to gardening and increase access to fresh, healthy food throughout Chicago communities.

Mercadito Grocery Bag Station

Free bags of fresh produce and other groceries will be given to attendees while supplies last. This effort is made possible through the Chicago United Solidarity Project (CUSP), whose work focuses on meeting community needs through mutual aid and resource distribution.
