Children and Youth Services

Hispanic youth in a big city face challenges every day. From getting to know themselves to dealing with friends, peer pressure, parents and schools, growing up is a critical process for the community's future. To that end, Casa Central has created programs geared towards providing young people support that impacts, education that supplements and for young parents, programs that help them raise the next generation.

Tabitha Stays Strong through Youth Opportunities Unlimited

Tabitha is a recent graduate who is currently attending Dominican University. She had been involved in the Youth Opportunities Unlimited Program for several years when her family's landlord decided to evict them so he could revamp the building. As a result, Tabitha, her three siblings and her mother became homeless.  The Y.O.U. after school program enabled Tabitha to focus on her studies to get her to where she is today, despite her obstacles.

Each year at Casa Central, 500 children ages 2-5 prepare for kindergarten at our Head Start programs... 175 school-age children participate in daily after-school activities... and 100 teens sign up in our after-school program, which provides unlimited opportunities for success.
