Brush Up on Summer Safety

Summer means long days and warm nights spent outdoors with friends and family. But summer carries some risks, especially for those who work outdoors, younger children, and older adults. Here’s some things to keep in mind to stay safe and healthy in the warmer months.

Heat: Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can escalate quickly. Staying hydrated is critically important. Drink extra water — before you get thirsty. Older adults and anyone working outdoors should take breaks to get out of the sun and cool down.

Water Safety: Swimming pools and even the lake can offer a great chance to cool off and have fun, but safety needs to be at top of mind. Stay out of the water unless you know how to swim. Never swim alone. Only swim in designated swimming areas that are staffed with lifeguards.

Around Town: Summer generally means more people out on the streets, in the road and on the sidewalks. Stay alert when walking, avoid cellphone distractions and don’t wear headphones when out and about. Hold children’s hands and always look both ways before stepping into an intersection.

Casa Central loves summer and urges everyone to stay safe. This page from the National Safety Council has much more information on staying safe, healthy and getting the most out of the summer season.

Have fun out there!
