Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery. On June 19, 1865, the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation was ordered in Texas at the end of the Civil War. Juneteenth is considered the longest-running African-American holiday and has been called America's second Independence Day.

Casa Central celebrates this important date in our country’s history and invites you to learn more about it at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History & Culture website.
