In Memoriam: Frank Perkins

June 5, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of our friend and colleague, Frank Perkins.

Frank started out as a Casa Central Board member, then answered the call to serve as our Vice President of Advancement. Frank’s love of people and of community was evident as he represented Casa throughout Chicago, and he will be deeply missed.

As we receive information about his services, we will share that information with all of you.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery. On June 19, 1865, the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation was ordered in Texas at the end of the Civil War. Juneteenth is considered the longest-running African-American holiday and has been called America's second Independence Day.

Each year, the United States brings awareness to domestic violence in October. In 2020, The Network* completed an analysis of statewide data and found that those folks who contacted the Chicago Domestic Violence Helpline, 59% were Black and 18% were Latino and both of these groups continue to struggle to access services, shelter, resources, and ability to contact local authorities.

Renovated Adult Wellness Center at Casa Central Reopens
